Shakshukah

This morning I made my darling one of his favorite dishes for breakfast, Shakshukah = שקשוקה. It is kind of a tradition here, I make it for him on his birthday, but this year we had to go out early on his birthday so I decided I will extend the birthday celebrations to the weekend.

While cutting all the veggies for the Shakshukah, I started thinking why I like cooking, I thought this cutting of the peppers is a bit like knitting , weird me. When I start cooking I was amazed by the colour combination growing in my skillet so I decided to take some photos:

Step 2 of my Shakshukah Step 3 of my Shakshukah Step 4 of my shakshukah

Step 5 is the time for the honorary ingredient The Shakshukah is ready! The left overs

If you want more details, click on the photos and make sure you have a loaf of a good fresh bread, it is a must! Beteavon = בת?בון :)

Celebrations

Yesterday was Joe’s Birthday, I knitted him some socks:

Knitted presents

The pair you see here is still not finished but I promised him I will not knit anything else until I finish this pair, it is Regia Jaquard color, I enjoy the smooth knitting and the automatic pattern result although I prefer the touch of the hand painted sock yarns. The other two pairs are hidden in those soft packages near the sad unfinished one:

Which one should I wear? he asks

As you can see, Joe had a problem deciding which one to wear and if you ask me, I think he likes them if he wears them in July in Arizona, even inside. You will never see me wearing any socks, not to mention wooly ones here at this time of the year!

The black one was started for last year’s birthday and got stuck in the one sock state for almost a year, the brown is the freckled yarn of Carol that made me so happy when I knitted it. They both fit nicely.

And another celebration: Harry Arrived:

Harry is here at long last

Ever since we bought the second book in Israel and then the third one in London (same trip, it took the wicked girl awhile to decide she likes these books,,,) she wants to read the original British edition so she waits and this time the wait was very profitable as you can see:

Oh Lucky Girl

I guess the online store where I ordered it shipped out a LOT of books that first day or maybe they decided we are such a nice customer we deserve the 2 for 1 deal ,,,
You should have seen the look of horror on the girl face when I suggested giving one as a present or something, I tell you, she is one of the last true book collectors this girl! And I like it.

Knitting Under Pressure

I just returned from an outsourced Application Support Center where my fingerprints were taken as part of the processing of my application for citizenship and I wonder:

  1. What does it tell us about the situation in a country when the process of becoming its citizen makes one feels afraid and or like a criminal?
  2. If my fingerprints were taken some 4 years ago at the same center and with the seemingly same computerized system, how come they need to do it again?
Is it just pure inefficiency? or does someone make profit from the processing fee?

And if it makes you wonder why I applied (sometimes I wonder too, especially while watching Sicko recently)?
The answer is: I want to vote in 2008!

And while I did knit a little when I was waiting in line in the outside waiting room, after encountering the official that called some of us into the inside waiting area who barked at us to sit there or we may loose our place in line, I hurriedly finished the few stitches hanging on one dpn and hid my knitting in my little Crown Royal pouch, I was afraid she will notice me and declare my lovely dpns a weapon of mass destruction and confiscate them, and who can give up a lovely favorite set of Rosewood Lantern Moon dpns for the pleasure of some knitting? not I for sure.
