New Year’s FOs

This Christmas I had two UFO’s packed as presents. Both packages carried Sam’s name and included a written promise to finish the projects before she goes back to college (January 18).

First I finished the Not Noro Striped Scarf :

Then I finished my first pair of knee high socks, Lakeside socks:

Oh what a lovely pair

What a lovely pair!

While I was nearing the end of the Lakeside, I saw Splityarn’s Noro Striped Sock and I felt a strong urge to knit a pair too, you can probably imagine how happy I was to find the exact same colorway in my Stash. I was good enough to finish the Lakeside first (I had a promise hanging over my head after all) before casting on for that lovely pair.

A few days later and before Sam went back to her frozen college in Vermont, these were ready:

Oh the colors of Noro!

Oh the colors of Noro

And now if you will excuse me, I must go walk, we started dieting today and our plan includs walking at least after 2 major meals (today we were good, we walked after lunch too).

The Temptations of Noro

To break the monotony of my cowl addiction I succumbed to Noro colors again:

Noro Colors Too

While knitting the scarf I worried a lot. I thought it will turn out weird or dull, I  kept rewinding the skeins to check the colors combinations I can get.

But at the end of it all, I am really pleased with the result:

Most of Noro More

Noro is an old love of mine. I first met this corruption in a lovely boutique yarn in Tel Aviv in 1986 (oooppps, now you know how old I am,,,), I immediately fell in love with the color combinations and the softness of this yarn. Yes, the first yarn of Noro that I ever used was extremely soft, I don’t remember the name of it but it had a high content of angora and it was outrageously expensive. I still have the sweater I knitted from it:

although it doesn’t fit me anymore. It looks quite new as I didn’t wear it much, angora was never very suitable to the weather I live in – my kind of luck!

So when I saw Noro again in my LYS a few years ago when I returned to knitting, I couldn’t resist it and made my feather and fan shawl from it – to tell you the truth, I was quite disappointed when I knitted the shawl, the yarn had many knots in it and I remembered a much softer yarn but the shawl itself is beautiful so I was happy. This time when I knitted the scarf, again it was not the most pleasant yarn to knit with but I love the result so I guess I will keep going for more Noro.

My Noro Striped Scarf 2 Large

Six

I have been tagged by Margene and since I didn’t blog in quite awhile, I decided to go with it.

As I have photos in all sorts of folders, I had to choose and decided to go with one that has a lot to do with the number 6.

So here is the sixth photo in the sixth folder in My Pics folder:

It is a photo of a new son of one of my friends in Israel, he was born January 26, 2006 and  he is a few days old in the photo (I wanted to say that he is six days old in this photo but I am not sure about that,,,) It looks to me like he has six pillows around him (ok, so I don’t count so well, shoot me!) And no, he is not her sixth kid!

If you like, please play along with us:
* Go to your sixth picture folder and pick your sixth picture.
* Pray you remember the details.
* Tag five others.

I don’t know who to tag – I don’t think I have five readers to this blog.

Oh and is it OK to use a photo that I didn’t take? I hope so and if not, this is my version of the game.

And on another note: We just returned from seeing the movie: MILK, please go see it, it is an excellent movie. It made me very sorry that they did not release it before the elections. Maybe it would have changed the outcome of Proposition 8 in California, Proposition 102 here in Arizona and all the rest of those shameful propositions all over the country.

In the knitting front: I am almost at the last row of my 11th cowl although the 10th is still on the needles so maybe this one should be numbered the 10th – so far all the recipients claim to love them, hurray!
