My friend Luly from Dublin sent me photos of a red cardigan I knitted for her quite a long time ago (I think it was 1984):
She still wears it but not too often as she finds it too warm these days. I think you can see she likes the cardigan and take good care of it:
If you think this one is old what will you think about this one:
I love the details of this one:
Here are the front and back:
I think Luly is an excellent care taker of knitted treasures, don’t you agree?
She does not know when her great grandmother knitted this lovely cardigan but the woman died around 1954 or 1955 so we all agree this cardigan is old, right?
oh i ADORE old handknits! my grandma knit me a wool afghan when i was 4 years old (the year i learned to knit!) and i still use it all the time. even the sewing has held up; i’ve never had to do a repair. it is a beautiful bold 50s design in turquoise and cream, knit in alternating strips of a cable and lace pattern. every time i throw it on to take a nap it lulls me right to the sweet sleeping place . . .
that black and cream sweater is a true treasure.
The hand knits from the past are such treasures as are the pictures!
