Saturday we went on a search of wildflowers.
We found yellow carpets all over the place:
And patches of delicate, beautiful Mexican Poppies:
This is the Organ Pipe, the cactus that gave its name to the National Monument where we were:
The afternoon sun revealed the beautiful deep red (like a good red wine) of the needles of this cactus, amazing!
From the place I stood, I thought the cactus is blooming:

oooh, wow . . . love those mexican poppies; i just requested yarn from knitting notions in that color for some future socks. catherine calls it french marigold but the color looks similar to these flowers.
wow – gorgeous flower photos – and the cactus too – I adore the red red tips on the cactus! I’m glad we’re having a small “cool” spell come through – I’m not ready for the heat!
