Nothing Too Important

This morning we took off in a different direction than our regular morning routes and about mid way Joe said: Do you need something from the grocery store, we are close enough to include it in this walk. So we did it. The second BAT/KAT trip this week, aren’t we good?

Now he is talking about walking to Sprouts, poor me! The Fry’s/Safeway junction we went to this morning is about 1.5 miles from home, Sprouts is about 3.5 according to Google Maps but we can make it shorter walking, we guess about 3.0 miles or so,,, in nice weather it is not too hard but they promise 3 digit temps here pretty soon, we will see.

After swatching the colorful yarn I showed here the other day, I think it is too fat for a small baby when knitted in garter stitch. This made me visit my stash. I found nice things. I think I will try a Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn I found there. I bought 2 skeins in preparation to knit my first sock ever and the lady in the lovely shop Windsor Button, told me that maybe I should take 2 skeins to be on the safe side. I finished the socks with a little leftover from the first skein. I am not sure I have enough yarn though, I will know better when I finish the first BSJ soon.

I saw in my stash some lovely sock yarns, I will need to knit those soon. I saw a sweater worth of cotton that I intended to knit last summer. I found some lovely cotton that want to be knitted into something summery – who said the only place we can have fun with yarn are yarn stores or the internet?

Oh and about this Boston wonder – I stumbled upon it by accident walking in Boston while we went with Sam to a college tour in the Northeast in March 2006, so I can’t really tell you what I saw there. The only thing I remember is wondering between shelves full of yarns and finding more and more wonderful corners full of fiberly delights, just what a good yarnoholic looks for in a yarn store in a new city.

Random Conversations With Myself

Joe and I walk every morning (at least until it will be too hot outside). Just the other day a guy was walking towards us and he said: I see you walking hand in hand every morning, it is so nice, I must talk to my wife about it!
(In my head): Isn’t that lovely? On the other hand, I never saw him before in my life so how come he sees us everyday,,,, hmmmm,,,, (the always suspicious Israeli!)

I have issues with my stash lately! I don’t think I like the idea of it! It makes me feel too guilty!
(In my head): Why do you need to buy more yarn when you have all those boxes and boxes of it waiting to be knitted, didn’t you think you must knit those when you bought them?

The situation of the world economy these days make me look at all this obsessive shopping we do in a different way. I am much better at it, or better say with not doing it, in the last few years as the number of pairs of shoes in my closet will attest, but still!
(In my head): OK woman, good point, but why did you have to choose yarn as your focus with this good intention?

In my previous knitting cycle (years ago when I was young) I was very good
(In my head): So you say!
I used to knit one object at a time AND buy yarn per each project
(In my head): didn’t you buy a few projects worth in that nice shop on the second floor of Dizengoff center? Nu Be’emet WOMAN now you are really exaggerating, it was only once maybe twice and it was for other people birthdays and such,,,,

But seriously, I mainly knitted one object at a time and bought yarn per project and I can see many good points about it: I rarely had UFOs hanging all over my place and making me feel guilty about not finishing them. I always was knitting the nice yarns that just came into the market!
(In my head): Come on woman, you call those nice? you were so good only because of the limited selection you had in Israel and the budget constrains! you were young then, remember?

Will you believe me if I tell you that I have only ONE laceweight yarn in my stash and it is cobweb?
(In my head): Are you sure about that? maybe you should go check again, did you check in all the boxes and other hiding places?

So what should I do when I have an urge to knit lace right now?
(In my head): Go finish that lovely Bee Field Stole you started last year or knit some socks, you got 2 of those to finish too!

Ha yes, I said I will finish my Pi Blob, but it is getting too warm around here to knit such a large object, it may need to wait for cooler weather,,,, Oy Oy Oy!
(In my head): it is all Anne’s fault! it is all because of those yummy looking lace patterns you proof read for her! go knit your baby jackets and shut up already!

OK before I leave, I just want to show you something beautiful we saw on our way back from California a few weekends ago:

Yellow-Headed Blackbird

I asked Joe to try and catch one flying as they have an exquisite white stripe patten on their wings but it was very windy so this is the best he managed to catch:

A Yellow-Head Blackbird Landing

Oh yes and we walked to the restaurant last night so I guess that makes me a BAT/KAT participant according to Claudia’s rules, YAY!

Knitting and Saving

Yes I am still knitting. Last Friday I got news that a new baby joined our extended family, the perfect excuse to put my Pi Blob aside and start a new knitting project don’t you agree?

I chose the famous Baby Surprise Jacket. This pattern called my name for a long time, I think it is the puzzle lover in me that wanted to try this one and I must say it is a pleasure to knit, a very satisfying process knitting indeed.

What is this knitted object?

I decided to be good and follow the instructions almost blindly as everybody advise you to do with this pattern of Elizabeth Zimmerman.

I really liked it when suddenly a little jacket emerges:

Looka Baby Jacket appears in my knitting project

The only problem I have is that right now it looks like it will be too small or only marginally fit a new born and this baby lives in Tel Aviv so a jacket will not be a very popular item in his wardrobe in the next few months.

I was considering ripping it off and knitting a larger version in this yarn (On line Supersocke 100) but I think I have a better idea! I will knit a larger version and send a set, one for the baby and one for his teddy bear, what do you think about that? I only regret I don’t have enough yarn to knit both in the same yarn, oh well, next time!

Oh and I have a request, can you help me choose the yarn? these are the only 2 yarns suitable for baby garments I have in my stash (I think):

Which yarn to choose for my nest Baby Surprise Jacket

I prefer the colorful one as it is softer but it is a boy and I am afraid it will not pass, what do you think? and if we are talking about this, do you think the almost knitted one is suitable for a boy? I like it but am not sure it will be acceptable by most, my little problems!

And before I go I must show you the latest Saki’s survivor:

A Geico saved from Saki’s claws

My hero saved this little guy from our wicked cat yesterday. It is a kind of a game those two play. I even noticed that Saki let him know when he enters the house with a new victim, he meow in a special way – boys!
