USA Citizen

I got my USA citizenship today.

The swearing ceremony took place in the atrium of the Sandra Day O’Connor United States Courthouse – it was the first time they held the ceremony in the atrium and it was quite big, 502 new citizens were sworn in. I really enjoyed looking at all the different people that got their citizenship together with me and was really impressed by the Honorable Mary Murguia, she made me realise how important this ceremony is for so many of the people.

I decided to apply for citizenship because if I live here I want to be able to vote but for many people it was more than that, it was a door to a better future for them and their families. People that come from war zones, impoverished countries and dictatorships see a future that they could never have attained in their homeland. You could see the pride and happiness in their faces as family members took photos of them holding up their certificates.

The oldest person was a 82 year old lady from Albania and the youngest a 19 year old boy from Brazil. There were people from from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, China and many other countries, not surprisingly the majority were from Mexico.

After the ceremony I went to submit my application for a US passport at Sheriff Joe Arpaio‘s county court house and unfortunately I had to give them my brand new naturalization certificate along with the passport application – it seems the federal government doesn’t trust Sheriff Joe‘s court officials to determine the authenticity of the certificate. Then I was informed that my passport and my naturalization certificate will be mailed to me by regular mail – I sure hope this was a mistake!

Conversations with a Non Knitter

We went hiking today, it was lovely (another post). On the way back home I was ripping off a row that I knitted by mistake and bitching about it half to myself:

Me: oooffff,,,, I knitted almost a whole row (576 stitches’ row), I thought it was only a few stitches,,,
Joe: What Honey?
Me: Nothing dear, I am talking to myself, I knitted too much and I am bitching about it while ripping it off….
Joe: So why do you keep knitting.
Me: I am not knitting, I am ripping off.
Joe: Hmmm,,,, are you sure? this looks like knitting to me!
Me: Nope, I am ripping.
Joe: So, how come you don’t do the pppppppppshshshshshshhstttttttttt,,,,,
Me: Oh, you do that when you have to rip off a few rows, when you need to rip off only a row or so you do what I do right now!
Joe: It sure looks like you are knitting to me!

It Is So Easy to Make Him Happy!

It is so easy to make my honey happy, aren’t I lucky? but this is yet another subject.

Right after I took this photo; in the car, on the way to Flagstaff:

Joe: So, how was your day?
Me: It was OK, I loved it when it snowed!
Joe: Did you manage to knit a lot?
Me: Not really, just after you took the lunch break I realised I made a mistake and had to rip off almost everything I knitted earlier, but it is OK, I knitted most of it back.
Joe: Why did you have to rip off? was it such a big mistake?
Me: I forgot to add a stitch!
Joe: WHAT? you ripped all this work for just one stitch? are you crazy woman? why couldn’t you just add a stitch where you found out about your mistake and sailed right on?
Me: Oh NO! I can’t do such a thing!
Joe: why NOT?!?

Hmmmm,,,, the logic of a non knitter!

To tell you the truth, I think he had quite a good point there! :)

Desert in Yellow

Saturday we went on a search of wildflowers.
We found yellow carpets all over the place:

And patches of delicate, beautiful Mexican Poppies:

This is the Organ Pipe, the cactus that gave its name to the National Monument where we were:

Organ Pipe Cactus

The afternoon sun revealed the beautiful deep red (like a good red wine) of the needles of this cactus, amazing!

Oh So Pretty

From the place I stood, I thought the cactus is blooming:

More stories, details and photos when I will have a minute. Soon hopefully!
